Agenda: Achieving Region Scale Sustainable Development
How do regions and cities plan for outcome based sustainable development? How can you decarbonise a city, improve health and wellbeing, improve transport links and create safe spaces for people to live, work and play?
Come and hear from industry experts as we discuss green growth in the region, focussed around the built environment. We hear from:
- โ Michael Wayne Bexton: Giving us their insight to the challenges of the East Midlands, what are the ways that Nottinghamshire County Council and Midlands Net Zero Hub is tackling them?
๐ Vicky Evans: Can we learn from others? How are other cities tackling green growth, is there anything we can adopt and practise from others?
๐ฉโ๐ซ Rachel Macrorie from the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment (ADBE) and Centre for Sustainable Construction and Retrofit: What are the hopes and opportunities that are ripe for the taking (policy, skills gaps, education or education)
Minutes:
The event helped showcase that ambition should never be contained. Our minds power to innovate and deliver credible change is possible in all situations – but especially here in the East Midlands.
Both Wayne and Vicky spoke powerfully on the impact that they are having on the region and the opportunity we have before us with the recent establishment of the combined authority.
The session explored themes in the East Midlands – what do we have? What could we have? Where can we support.
The records from the audience are shared below
Broadly, the presenting team covered three things we would like to see from the Region:
- Vision – a clear statement of direction, indicating funding and development opportunities.
- Strategy – a strategic plan and funding pathway to realise opportunities. We want this to be strategic and coordinated.
- Quality – both places and design. We have a history of innovators, let’s continue that trend.
Connectivity was also discussed, in addition to embedding the above with strong and robust sustainable principles.
