Social Value is becoming an ever-larger part of the built environment sector. The sector has witnessed the publication of different frameworks, policies, tools and thought leadership yet social value continues to have its complexities.
For this event, Rhiannon and Andy will bring together guest speakers from different corners of the Built Environment Sector for an interactive session to discuss what social value means to them from their view of the sector and what good practice looks like for the local economy and community.

Meeting Minutes + Notes:
This morning event discussed the purpose of social value within the construction industry.
There was an amazing array of guest speakers and inspiring stories about the Built Environment, seeing the collaboration between organisations to enable transformational change.
From both the Switch Up and Grace Enterprises, they both gave inspiring examples of the dignity and importance of work and how a job doesn’t change the individual, but their family and wider community.

๐Rhiannon Kilgariff – Social Value Strategic Manager (ISG):
- Social value can be different to public and private sectors
- Itโs important part of the process and we should do more of it.
- Itโs an opportunity to support the local need and deliver meaningful value.

- Need to focus on who we work with.
- Deliver local value, understand people in the ground.
- What are the collaborations that give best outcomes for everyone?
- How can we help and support them?

- Transforming lives through business, how do we tackle long term unemployment?
- Pay the real living wage, and support them after paying.
- Transforming lives through supportive employment.
- Some people have multiple barriers to work and for us, 40% of people have been unemployed for 1 years or more.
- How can we support people and help get their lives back on track?
- We use a Living Life Index (please contact Matt for more) to support and review staff holistically.

- Habits can affect your life. Sometimes, we need to help change lifestyles and want to make a change in the community.
- How does our lived experience and lived experience of others – and what are the things that are needed to progress social mobility and see sustainable change?
- Switch Up are looking for scalability and partners in the West Midlands.
- Covid and cost of living has been tough – we have to be human and accept that life can change suddenly. How can we be human and listen to one another? How can we use our resources in a more meaningful way to support the transition?
